The immense pool and breath-taking views from the chalets are a recipe for relaxation at Le Refuge du Cerf. If you're looking for a few days' getaway, this place – which is very popular with islanders – offers guests the best of outback life. Chantal and Stéphane share their day-to-day life with their guests in this remote corner of New Caledonia, tucked between Voh and Koumac. Stéphane, who loves the many deer that roam the area, can tell all sorts of stories about the animals.
Every evening, guests share a convivial meal of local food around a huge wooden table, with dishes including homemade venison sausages and ham, wild boar ragu and a squash puree. The hearty breakfast, which includes toast, papaya and mango jams, homemade pastries, muesli, fresh fruit salads and compotes, will delight even the largest of appetites. If you love beautiful walks, you can wander through the property and look for deer and peacocks! The lodge also tries to be as environmentally friendly as possible, and uses solar panels to produce its own electricity.
