One of the most beautiful old buildings in the Costa Rican capital houses a retro café where coffee is king: it comes in dessert, ice cream, iced or classic espresso and cappuccino, from the best growths from seven provinces.
Though the building, built in the late 19th century, impresses with its exterior colonnade and marbles and frescoes inside, the kitchen opts for a simplicity that does not exclude quality: the sandwiches are prepared with homemade bread, salads with seasonal vegetables, smoked salmon, chicken, or tuna, and the quiche changes daily. There are also fruit cocktails that can be mixed with soy milk. An absolute must if you want to splurge in San José.
