The Arts District is being fully redeveloped and is well worth the trip. Lofts, vegan restaurants, yoga centres, bike repair shops… In a matter of years, this tiny neighbourhood has reached the trendiest tops.
Setting up shop in the former National Biscuit Company warehouses since it opened in 2008, Church & State has become a major player there, as well as a small and loving corner of France in the US. The refined and all-wood design, bar and open kitchen all take you back to a Paris bistro, inside as well as outside with a large terrace extension.
The mouthwatering and surprising brasserie-like menu is the work of starred-chef Tony Esnault. It offers stuffed seabass, skirt steak with shallots, niçoise salad, mussels in white wine and obviously the inevitable steak tartare served with fries. French feeling is complete, up to cold cuts and hand-crafted cheeses… The wine list reveals a large selection of French bottles from the Loire, Bordeaux and Languedoc regions that the country is famous for. In moderation, they will subtly complement your meal.
