You don't know what a “crampotte” is? Under the reign of Napoleon III, heyday of Biarritz's fishing harbour, the crampotte in Gascon idiom described a “small house” where fishermen used to rest and store some equipment.
In the 1930s, one of these, the Crampotte 30, became a local landmark for its picturesque quality among boats and seagulls. It is easily recognisable by its green shutters and red tables.
Here a friendly spirit perpetually reigns among the regulars, who come to share tapas, verrines and homemade preserves and delicacies. Pâtés, meats, cheeses and other treats come directly from the market and from regional producers.
A relaxed atmosphere, it is the perfect place to kick back, a glass of txakoli in hand, and discuss the most pressing issues of the day.
