Enjoying strolls in Parma

Enjoying strolls in Parma

If perfection had a name, it would be Parma.

Only an hour from Bologna by car, the wondrous city of Parma, of which Etruscan origins go back to Antiquity, is well worth the trip. You will love strolling along the charming narrow streets and wandering around for a whole sunny afternoon on the Piazza Garibaldi. Take some time to admire the ducal palace, and make sure you buy tickets to see an opera by Verdi.

On the food stalls around the city, prosciutto di Parma and parmigiano Reggiano reign supreme. They both are the reflection of unique craft, and are Protected Designations of Origin. Informed travellers will tell you that even in local supermarkets, these products are of far better quality than the ones destined for exportation. So do not hesitate, take advantage!

As an intense cultural centre, the House of Farnese maintained a bright artistic output unique in Europe throughout the Renaissance. Ever since that time, Parma has housed architectural marvels like the Duomo, the cathedral, the Farnese theatre, the small palaces that circle the Piazza Garibaldi, and most recently the Niccolò Paganini auditorium designed by Renzo Piano.
