Moda Hotel: chic and contemporary

This recently renovated Yaletown hotel is housed in a listed heritage building.

The century old Moda building has already lived several lives. When it opened in 1908 (it was then called the Dufferin Hotel, named after the British Lord), workers from the nearby railway frequented the establishment, after which it became a very chic club for English gentlemen. Its final incarnation was as a punk and grunge bar.

Now, it is a hotel, ideally located in chic and trendy Yaletown. During the renovation, many historical details were preserved, such as the beautifully restored mosaic floor, the mouldings of the entrance hall, and the brick facade. Artists have painted murals on the exterior walls while the 67 rooms have been redesigned in a contemporary spirit, dominated by beige, charcoal-grey, and vermilion.

As a modern urban hotel, it also features a stylish wine bar called Uva and a restaurant with Italian influences, the Cibo Trattoria.
