Located in the basement of a building in the Condesa district, Rioma Bar originally belonged to the actor Mario Moreno: Rioma is Mario with reversed syllables. Prepare for a long wait, unless you're with a regular, are a celebrity lookalike, or want to test your luck with the bouncers by offering a generous tip.
After a complete renovation in 2006, the Rioma features mahogany walls and ceilings, and partitioned rooms decorated with Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama's ubiquitous polka dots.
The clientele includes fashion models, celebrities, and night owls who mingle amid the house sounds, electro, and pop against a backdrop of lighted walls and plasma screens. The ambience crescendos as the evening progresses, with the occasional appearance of real stars and celebrities around 1:00 in the morning.
